Campbell River...

Its a beautiful little town, with dare I say a big city attitude.  So many talented people that live in the area, inspiration every which way you turn, but yet I still feel like I don't belong here.  There are some wonderful supportive customers that come out and lend a hand for us without even asking sometimes.  So why is it that I allow negative moments to ruin my day?

Every Sunday down in the parking lot the Pier Street market is held, and every Sunday rain, snow, or 40 above weather, I do a blowing demo.  I love sharing glass with others, its something I miss watching and its nice to share with those interested.  You take it personal tho when you've spent a half hour working on a piece that turned out pretty sweet, and a crowd of people just stare at you like you just tied your shoe.  No big deal.  Instead of a tip, they throw garbage in your bowl.  Am I wrong in thinking that a glass blowing demo isn't entertaining?

I'm not going to give up on Campbell River just yet, I will keep insisting that glass is by far the coolest material out there to work with, and that my job is by far the best in the world.  And soon, everyone will agree with me!

Armstrong IPE

Our nerves are shot, are hands are blistered, our gallery is a mess and the truck is packed and on the road.

Its the annual Armstrong Interior Provincial Exhibition Fair and Rodeo and guess who is attending.  Thats right, Tide Line.  What is "Tide Line" doing at a rodeo... we've gone country, thats all I'm going to say! Vicki made some cute leaded cowboy boots, and some fused dishes with a bull skull... lots of jewellery, paper weights, and blown bowls.

So if you're in the Armstrong area go check up on Vicki and see whats happening!

As for the store, I (Toni) stayed to keep the studio open for the locals and get some work done for the upcoming shows.  Yea, we're not even close to being done yet.

Monday!

So its Monday again, the Market was fun yesterday, Emma the furnace has been back up and hot for a few days now and was a hit as usual. Also yesterday was the boat rodeo down on at the park. The tugboat push was my favorite by far...
The Armstrong Stampede is approaching us fast so we are working hard in the studio making cowboy boots and racking our brains for funky ideas.
Go Tide Line GO!

Kiln Casting Class

Class idea for the fall... comments, questions, concerns welcome.

Look at glass in a different way, using plaster, your hands, a little wax and clay and see where it takes you.  Amanda Parker, kiln caster from Georgetown Ontario is relocating to BC and is willing to share her knowledge using the Tide Line Studio.  Contact us if you are interested!

Whats happening at the studio...

I feel like we're run off our feet, writing never ending lists, answering the phone and emails, and still not getting ahead.  Please do not take this as a complaint, busy is good.  Busy keeps us motivated.  I do however feel like Im not working on my own things as much as I had wanted.  But reality says this is how it is.  So deal.

Emma, my furnace decided she needed an element change and at first I was frustrated but I got to use the weeks off to finish other things that were being neglected, focus my time more on promotional things, the kilns, and sketching out some ideas for the near future.

Whats new? Jelly fish! I finally finished them to the point where Im satisfied.  Last years Jelly Fish were ok, not bad, not ugly, but just not what I had invisioned.  This time, I think I got it and am pretty excited about them.  There are some on display in the gallery, and some on display at Bastion Square Market in Victoria.

Im excited to share too that the West Coast Community Craftshop carries some of our work now.  The positive response keeps us motivated! Check them out if you're up island.
