Although I call myself a glass blower I haven't been spending nearly enough time in the hot shop. Why? I was looking around my parents house one day, and thinking man if I had a home it would decorated to the nines with stuff. They have nothing. No family pictures, not a stitch of glass. So I told them what I thought and asked if I could "Tonify" it. Spruce things up a bit. Make it homey. A home, a 3-d portrait of what you represent. After sharing some ideas, drawings and toning down some of my ideas... baby steps with the old man. He doesn't adapt well to change. I changed their dining room into a den, moved the table out, it was never used to eat at just collect the papers and mail and moved a small couch in and hung a small tv on the wall. So cozy.
The Johnson family aren't real curtain or blinds people but the windows needed something. So with my Ah Huh moment I designed these windows. And made them. And well made my mother help me.
Although the windows are installed, my father is going to make oak frames for them when he finds the time. Ill keep you updated on what I do next to the rest of the house.

Elizabeth Kubler Ross Quote
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

So last week at this time I was celebrating, excited to have this entire studio to myself. Well one week later and still no sign of Victoria... Im exhausted. Did I get anything done? No, not really. Did I organize the kiln area? Nope. Didn't even look at it. Did I blow as much glass as I humanly could. NO. No I did not. What did I do? I did all the pesky repairs, grouted the mosaics stacked up against the back room wall, cold worked, I had to be nice to customers, oh and managed to convince my father to mop the floor.
I did however in my week of accomplishing nothing managed to put together a Tide Line pamphlet including prices, services, and a class schedule. Now for updated pictures!

Friend...
I'm mad at you Dee. You messaged me on facebook chat not that long ago saying you would be in. Your glass is still in your nikey box on top of our messy cubby where you left it last. And your plates are still here too. The ones you bought at Super Valu because you loved my "Broken" piece so much, you came to the shop with brand new ones ready to break up and make one with me.
You came into my life at the beginning of my glass career. Before I even knew it would be a career. We spent those evenings together, cutting glass, talking about life, men, dogs and travelling. You were my friend.
You were a supportive friend to Tide Line, spoiling us with hot lunches, and crazy stained glass patterns you were eager to try. The news of you leaving the world came as such a shock, but come to think of it you were always doing something wild and crazy.
I'll finish your piece for you Dee.
